About

Technology became a business discipline. Leadership had to follow.

Trevor Hicks has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of technology, operations and business strategy, including more than a decade leading technology inside a growing wealth management firm.

During that time, the firm grew from approximately $4 billion to more than $16 billion in assets. As CTO and a member of the firm's executive leadership, Trevor helped guide technology through that growth, organizational change and a major merger.

His work included major transformations across portfolio technology, CRM, data and integrations, cybersecurity, client technology and emerging AI capabilities. He also served in operational and compliance leadership roles, giving him a perspective on technology shaped by more than technology itself.

Why Stack exists

Over time, Trevor saw the same pattern repeat.

As advisory firms grow, technology becomes more consequential to nearly every part of the business. Decisions that once seemed tactical begin shaping operations, client experience, risk, staffing and the firm's ability to scale.

But technology leadership doesn't always grow at the same pace.

Responsibility becomes distributed across operations, compliance, internal teams, MSPs and technology vendors. Each may understand part of the environment. Few are responsible for understanding the whole.

Stack Strategy was created to help close that gap.

It brings experienced, independent technology leadership to firms that need better decisions and clearer direction without necessarily needing another full time executive.

How We Think

A practical view of technology.

01

Start with the business.

Technology strategy should follow what the firm is trying to accomplish, not the other way around.

02

Optimize before replacing.

New technology isn't automatically better technology. Sometimes the right answer is improving what already exists.

03

Execution matters.

A roadmap has little value if nobody owns what happens next. Good technology leadership carries decisions through implementation and governance.

Make the next technology decision with the bigger picture in mind.
